From factory to cultural centre
ECI Cultuurfabriek has a remarkable industrial past. For centuries, the power of the River Roer was harnessed at this location. In 1926, the power station of the Elektro Chemische Industrie was built here. After its closure in 1974, the complex gradually fell into disrepair. From 2009 onwards, the former factory underwent extensive restoration, preserving many of its characteristic industrial features. In 2012, ECI Cultuurfabriek opened its doors as a cultural meeting place in Roermond.
